Disagreement in Project Length

I say my film is 2 mintutes long. Vegas says it is 2:02 in length.

I've looked and looked and looked and I don't see any events past the 2 minute mark, nor any orphaned keyframes. Nothing. No Regions, no Markers.

But if I hit the "End" button, it zips to 2:02 despite it all.

There is one of those little black arrows at the top of the tracks sectio, though, indicating I shrank some things a while back, so apparently it used to be 2:02. But not anymore.

What's up with that? Even clearing the edit history, so I can't go back to that 2:02 doesn't help.

No big deal...just some dead air at the end, but...

I've been rendering with the default DVD Arch preset and that puts in the pulldown...but I don't think the project properties mentions it. (I'd check, but it's in the middle of rendering right now).

Even so...2 seconds doesn't seem like room enough for the "fake frames".

It's probably something stupid I did. It doesn't really hurt anything (since I'm well under the 6 minute limit. ), but it's like something stuck on the back of my tongue...annoying that I can't get at it to remove it.

Yep. Both set to Time & Frames.

I just tried some others...they all act the same way.

But, more weirdness. If I expand or shrink the width of the tracks, the "end point" changes, too. And then when I put everything back the way it was...the "end time" is now different.

Playing or rendering the project, or just hitting End...it goes past the last frame. But hitting Ctrl-End puts the cursor smack dab on the end.

No timecode offset in your prefs? No redbook standard script has been run? (2 seconds is the Redbook standard insertion for burning an audio CD)

Nope. No offset that I can see, and so script run.

I think it might just be a vagary of Vegas. The "end" seems to vary, depending on how wide the tracks panel is zoomed.

It wouldn't bother me, if it were just a visual thing, but the projects actually "play" to that point, rather than stopping at their end.

why do you think it is EXACTLY 2 min long ??

note that in drop frame TL goes from 01:59;29 to 02:00;02= standard drop frame counting ...

there is NO way you can get exactly 2 min out of 29.97 there will always be a fraction of some kind ( using frames)

if you want the exact TIME of your piece then change the TL ruler to TIME = exact running time ... if you want to make your project exactly 2min then use TIME as ruler , switch off quantize - then grab end of clip and either make longer or shorter to 2 min .. you'll then find your last frame is not a full frame/field..

Because if I go to the end of the track...alt-arrow to the last frame, it says 2 minutes.

Oh, and it's progressive, not interlaced. :)

i've tried reproducing a 2min clip and i can only come up with +2 frames
02:00;02 not 02:02;00
progressive or interlace it still 29.97 for NTSC ..

if this is a rendered clip - have you looked at the TC on the clip itself ?
if yes, then that would be drop frame TC which is counted slightly different then Time and time & frames ...
