I'm starting to build up my rig quite a bit(24 inch rail, shoulder mount, grips, 35mm adapter, lens, HVX-200, monitor), and it's starting to get to the point that I won 't want to move the camera too often, and I just never trust the thumb/forefinger method of looking for a shot.
Soooo..I'm looking into a cheap 35mm adapter and a digital camera. this way I would have a small rig that I could carry around to look at what the shot will be...although of course it won't be quite as good as the full rig, but you all know what I'm saying....I hope.
So I guess what I'm looking for advice on is : What is the absolute cheapest digital still camera(or perhaps even minidv camcorder) and 35mm adapter combo that can work in a setup like this? The camera would need live viewing, although frame rate isn't important...I just need to be able to see as I'm moving the frame.
A biggie point on this is also finding lightweight parts. Since this ISN'T a rig to be used for filming, quality isn't all that important...price and weight are the biggest concerns. I'm guessing this means a static adapter, cause to be honest I won't want to figdet with batteries and the like past the ones on the camera. Flipping the image is unimportant, as I'll just carry the rig upside down.
I'm hoping to find a static adapter that has interchangable lens mounts as well, as I may be using a couple different lens mounts on my main 35mm adapter, but this isn't paramount if it increases the price too much...I can be swayed into retiring a lens mount system if it means too much extra setup time as well.
I suppose one last big important point is that the camera must be able to have it's focus locked at a specific point...I'm looking for cheap, but I don't want the camera trying to focus through the ground glass....I don't mind focus being buried in a menu, as I'll be setting it to a specific point and always leaving it there.
Thanks in advance, and as I build the rig I'll post pictures and my experiences in this thread.
