Hello everyone. I'm brand new to this site and I really enjoy reading everything that's talked about here. People here are intelligent and informative.

My name is Dallas Coyle. I play in a band and tour professionally but am going to be making film my profession.

I'm shooting an 8 minute short in December for a DVD collection I'm producing. It's a horror collection and this will be my first time behind the camera. I was wondering if anyone had any tips about creating a fluid work environment and clarifying to everyone their roles. I'm the director and writer on these shorts so I'm the one with the control, but since I've never done a shoot, i'd like to know what to look out for.

I'm going to have a 10 person crew not including actors. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

i would suggest delegating as much as possible. focus your time and energy on the critical things and hand over everything else to qualified people you trust. i liked the book - the guerilla filmmaker's blueprint. it covers a bunch of different crew positions, and has lots of other useful info.

this i can tell you...every crew needs to have confidence in their leader. don't falter, respect your crew's suggestions and be fair. 'cause it'll be up to you to hold them together and maintain their fluidity. good luck!
