Hey guys any tips or basics for directing a concert shoot would be great. Something along the lines of a still and 2 other camera's. Were going to try and get a monitor rig and switcher etc...

Thanks

  • Camera placement to maximize interesting shots of the performers.
  • Communication with camera operators.
  • Camera operators that are both responsive to the director, but also with some amount of creativity and autonomy to shoot things that the director doesn't necessarily see.
  • Preparation to know what the music is like, know where the solos are, etc.

Cool thanks, yea i am the bands stage manager of sorts so i know they're songs liek the back of my hand !

All of the above but I would also add that composition in this medium is critically important.
You don't want to get too stylized to detract from the performance but get above average camera operators and you'll shine. Otherwise you run the risk of bland, forgettable coverage.

Do you have any composition tips?
