I'm directing 1st Music Video!!!! I need help getting my war chest together! I already have dvx100b and AF for post but I need good lighting under $500 and a good 35mm lens !! PLEASE HELP!
Maybe do it outside. It it is your first, use the free gifts of Mother Nature to help give your video a good look. Not sure what the style is, but remember, you only need a frame. I found something for just about any type of video (Urban, Country, Factory, Office, School, etc.) in a small town of 2000.
Use a reflector to bounce sunlight, shoot when the sun comes up in the morning, or 1.5 hours before it goes down. If you are using the 35mm adaptor, outside shots are really enhanced with it.
The DVX100b has a great depth of field and the settings for the scenes are some of the best.
I agree, if you have a small budget, what looks better, badly lit interiors or beautiful outside shots?! The sun is free! It's fantastic. You can get all kinds of cool stuff from the sun, too, nice little lens flares, cool reflections off drums and symbols, etc. It's fun...
You can rent a lens but before you start shopping around for lights at your budget....I would probably do some test shots with the artificial lighting sources that I already have. If you already have lighting equipment, figure out what can be done using those and then use them if the results are good, but if they look cheesy, then use the natural light like many others here suggested.
