Direct To Edit

Hello all,
I'm looking for some freindly advice. I'm having Audio problems with my DVX100a and instead of sending the camera out for repairs, I'm thinking of upgrading to a Direct To Edit system.

I'm just wondering if anyone recommded any specific brand, I'm leaning towards Quickstream DV or the Firestore. Any thoughts?

Thanks
~Timmy

Other options I'm looking at:

CinePorter

SONY's Disk Drive
Firestore
ADS
-PRYO
Shining-Citidisk
MCETECH-Quickstream

EVS in Burbank, CA probably has the best prices and info on DTEs for your camera as they're suppliers to a number if indeopendents and studios. Firestore is a quality product but so is CitiDISK which is less expensive. We use both and both function well. We'll be using the Firestore for the new JVCs when they finally get it ready for prime time.

What kind of audio problems are you having? You may not be able to fix it by just going to DTE.

BTW, I use Firestore, and it works fine. I sometimes do events videography, so I just have to remember to lock the buttons, in case I bump into people and accidentally change the settings (happened before).

I’m having Blank Audio spots on the tape.
While recording in my headphones, no problems, then during playback just blank spots not drop outs but totally blank areas on the tape.

I have tried recording out of the camera to a deck and that seems to work fine. So I thought going DTE would save me from trying to fix a messed up head or electronics.

What do you attach the Firestore to?

I get an audio drop on the FS4, too. It happens right when you press the record button - there's a 6 second pre-roll, then a moment of no audio, then normal video/audio. It hasn't bothered me too much because I always let the tape roll a few more seconds before any action. But I keep meaning to research this problem. Anybody have a solution?
