Dip to Color- keeping white flash inside my crop

I am cutting a music video and I want that common, fast white flash transition. When I use 'dip to color' it flashes the whole screen, going past my crop (some footage was shot in 4X3 and I put a crop to make it all look letterbox). How can I keep that dip to color inside the lines?

Add black slugs to the two top most video tracks. Position one slug to crop out the bottom part of the frame and one slug to crop out the top.
