Digitising HD into FCP via a DV deck

If you shoot on HD, and then you decide to copy all the rushes from the camera straight onto miniDV tapes for editing afterwards (via a DV deck), and then you use the miniDV deck to communicate with FCP, would it recognise the footage as being HD (even though it's being digitised from miniDV media?) Or, since it's really digitising a miniDV tape, would it just treat the footage as if it were plain old DV?

If you dubbed the HD footage to DV tapes, it is now DV footage. From your post it sounds like you shot HDV. Why dub to DV for editing? DO you realize that HDV and DV have the same data rate? 13GB for 1 hours worth of footage...for both formats. SO working in DV really makes no sense. Just capture HDV from the camera or another HDV deck (a DV deck will not play back HDV footage) and work natively.
