Digital Sputnik’s 'Voyager' Linear RGB+W LED

Whoa, these guys are doing awesome things. These will be waay more expensive than Quasar though, I'm guessing $1k/4ft if its in line with their DS1-9 series...

Still want a further explanation on their claim that RGBW can have low CRI but provide more accurate, wider color performance than high-CRI lights on digital cameras. This was something I was thinking about being possible and then I heard them say they did it but I'm curious about the science behind it.

These guys would make a killing if they could bring out a lower priced light. Their $20-25/Watt pricing is pretty hard to swallow for anyone who is not a big rental house, and it's about 3-4x higher than a lot of other high end gear. Similar pricing to Arri LED fresnels but those have a lot more mechanical complexity and material, though I guess their DS1s make up for that in expandablity.

Oh whoops I missed the pricing. Pretty interesting and could be amazing for certain effects. These will certainly start replacing Quasars for all the fluorescent tube/neon light practicals I keep seeing in music videos and such. Great that these can be completely standalone with built in battery and wirelessly controllable as quasars are convenient and flexible compared to fluorescents but still need wiring and inline dimmers. I wonder if it'll start to be possible to build LED lighting walls with these.

While intrigued by the Voyagers I'm not planning any purchases at least until NAB, which I won't be attending, & more likely not until CineGear, which I hope to attend.

Been very happy with my bi-color LEDs, but once you get used to RGB+ lamps the bi-colors seem almost old fashioned. My hope is Quasar releases linear RGB+ LEDs comparable to the Voyagers, the only reason being Quasar is located at my home base of Los Angeles, so repairs & upgrades would be simplified.

I'll likely pickup a few RGB+W linear LEDs, primarily for finessing backgrounds, but my main interests now are powerful bi-color or RGB+W COB fresnels that are rugged enough to survive professional abuse, & air travel, but much less heavy & bulky then Arri's.

The Aladdin 1x2' flex panels have served me well, & fill a roll, but a set of powerful COB fresnels would be more versatile. I already own a 90W Practilite which I envision as my weakest LED fresnel, & need a lamp with at least 200W draw, & another around 400W. For these I'd even be willing to forego RGB+ as long as they were bi-color.
