Digital recorder for TV? Hopeless!

That is the same as many HDMI recorders professionals use to record from their cameras. Note that it says:

"This device can not capture HDCP content. HDCP must be disable[sic] in the source player before the caputer[sic] device can record."

Which is why I said it might need to be paired with the HDMI splitter that someone mentioned earlier, because that splitter DOES strip out the HDCP portion of the signal.

However, there are down sides to that device.

First is the 2GB maximum file size limit. It will start a new file when it reaches the 2GB. But to play them as one continuous video, apparently you have to put the files on your PC and edit them together.

Which indicates the second problem -- it's only a recorder, it's not a player. So the recorded files would have to either be played on a computer or burned to a DVD to play on a TV.

Bummer.

So the search continues...

I think I may have finally found a device that will record TV for me! And it might even do it in HD! It's $130, but I think it would work, based on everything I've read about it.

But for that to work, it also needs the $21 HDMI splitter that strips the HDCP portion of the signal. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004F9LVXC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3J1IU3A1OXJ4I

So I'm taking the RCA DTA880 I bought back to Walmart and getting my $50 back. If I can scrounge up another $100 to add to it, I can get this thing and the splitter.

If it works -- Oh happy day!
