Digital film screeners

Just thought I'd share this with everyone. Could come in handy. I saw this on another forum and its been quite useful.

Essentially the problem I have with sharing a Vimeo password protected file is that I forget who has access and who doesn't. If I change the password then a bunch of people suddenly stop having access to my film.

These guys have a solution that addresses that aspect. It sends individual copies of the film and lets you set expiry dates for them. It also reports back when the recipient views the film, so I've been able to reach out to the person who has viewed the film pretty quick which is helping.

It isn't perfect and I wish there was a way to send a downloadable full resolution version of the film. Also, I've only been using their free version (10 free screeners), so I'm not sure how much I would be raving about it when I have to pay.

For now though its great to send very professional looking HD digital film screener of my film to sales agents, distributors and everyone else.

Have you guys used them or something similar?

I've heard of indee but never talked to anyone who actually use it. Withoutabox is ridiculously behind on resolution, plus it costs extra to have it online there.

Personally, I use Cinando and combine it with Vimeo just in case. Cinando is the greatest thing ever.

I tried Cinando for a little while when they were giving out a free trial (I think for all attendees of Cannes?). My two problems with Cinando is the terribly clunky interface. I had no idea where to even upload a film, and the screener viewing experience isn't great either (small player). Finally, I couldn't stomach the $120 membership plus $5 per screener.

Indee and Vimeo are much better as far as the nice interface and functionality goes. And Indee has the extensive industry address book similar to Cinando but is pay as you go after the free trial, so my bank isn't busted if I don't like it down the line.

I've had no problems with Cinando, and if you're selling a film it's an invaluable tool. You've got direct contacts there to virtually every buyer and festival in the world, including names, photos, direct email and telephone numbers to the people you want to contact. The screening room is an added bonus, but it's secure.
