I'm also presidient of the cynicism fanclub. PM me for my paypal account and I'll join you up for the low low fee of 56.65 (to cover the costs of registration and racial profiling).

Re: Digital Cinema Society

J Barnes, I put it right into your paypal account, Is that good?

Re: Digital Cinema Society

Bluespider, what do you feel is more valuable, the food stamps or the child? I'll take whichever I get get more for on the open market.

And Phil, that's great, thanks for your contribution. I'm sending your packet via cartoon stork.

Re: Digital Cinema Society

Don't be too hard on these guys. I don't know as though I'd join either but they have been around for some time. In fact I bought a pretty good DVD from them awhile back about digital production and post with interviews with some pretty notable names (ex: Allen Daviau, ASC, James Cameron, Soderbergh, Lucas, etc.)

Re: Digital Cinema Society

Barnes--that's a bit harsh, eh? I mean this is not one of those, 'Hey I just found the greatest site.." posts. The guy posted in the Cafe, rather than in announcements. They appear to be legitimate, and have some industry experience. He's got a listing in the IMDB http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0558484/
Plus, he was a guest star on Bewitched, and I loved that show. I think people can check out the link and make up their own minds.

Re: Digital Cinema Society

Or you could stick to the DVXUSER cinema society. It's free.

And we have smileys.  ;)

Just looked at the site, and it's got useful information on it. Seems like a good resource.

Re: Digital Cinema Society

I don't know. It kind of reminded me when Ross Perot started the Reform Party back in the day.......those were the days.....Looking forward to Dana Carvey every saturday night....Did he ever win an Emmy for that?

Re: Digital Cinema Society

Pookie, your point is taken (as I think you intended it) but for the record (full disclosure and all), my site www.filmmakersunion.org is not positioned to compete with the site listed. My site was began with the intention of creating a community-built filmmaking encyclopedia. In that aim, it’s quite half-assed and incomplete as I am the lone contributor.

I've had an unusual promotion in my position at work recently, and that's cut into my development time, leaving the site dormant for quite longer then I’d like.

Also, I don't charge $15 to join...I don't charge anything, in fact...and the only people that are expected to join are those who want to contribute. (a moot point because it hasn't taken off)

I think people took me a little too seriously....as jim pointed out, cynicism is not dead, however I have doubts about some people's sense of humor.

My POINT in making my original post is in poking fun at the multitude of people who join a forum like this and their first and only post is essentially an ad for a site that costs $15 to join. Think what you want about the people running it, I don't think I'm out of line in poking fun at it.

You can say that the site has value, perhaps there is reason for a person to join, but it’s just a little bit ridiculous that people question me making fun of an advertisement.

Pookie, I think you often take me too seriously and I’m sorry for that. I’m also sorry that you feel I have motives you must ponder.

And Barry, I obviously wouldn’t have poked fun if I’d known that this guy was a guest star on bewitched.

Re: Digital Cinema Society

I noticed that too. They always make some grand post saying "Join us! We're her for you!" blah balh blah and then never hear from them again. You'd think if they were trying to do 'sales' they'd try an build some kind of repoir.

Re: Digital Cinema Society

I'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt. There was probably no malice intended. But after looking over the site, there doesn't seem to be much reason to join. Maybe if he's lurking he could give us some more specifics as to the benefits. I'm open minded, but not so much that my brains fall out.

Re: Digital Cinema Society

Exactly. If I had a site I was trying to promote, and somebody got the wrong impression, I would at least say something. THe bottom of the main page shows how many people are onthis site. If a few people are going to scare you off, I'd say you either don't understand promotion, or somebody's response hit too close to home.

Or he posted and hasn't checked back.
