Digital Blood?

I saw some Chroma-keyable blood effects on DetonationFilms.com They're just $7 each :/ Does anyone know of similar effects, or how they can be created?
 
a simple blood effect can be done in After Effects with Particle Playground, or just throw blood across a green screen and key it in.
 
There is some very good digital blood on the film "The house of the seven daggers" A chinese kungfu/matrix number.
I wonder if anyone knows how they did those?
