digital artifacts during playback?? WEIRD.

I am starting to have problems when I play footage from the timeline. It looks just like the type of problem when you have a dirty playhead in the camera and you begin seeing artifacts during playback.

If I close the program and restart it, they go away. Seems like I get the problem whenever I have a long render session or go back and forth between programs.

anyone else have this problem?

Is this on the computer monitor or a real video monitor?
Does it only look bad when playing back? (i.e. does it look fine as a still)
FCP reduces the quality of the playback image on the computer at times, especially if the image isn't 100 and the window isn't displayed full size.
