DigiBeta

Ugh! :zombie_smiley:

I have a job coming up that REQUIRES DigiBeta and nothing else (no IMX, nothing). There's no arguing this point with the client. We have to shoot on DigiBeta cameras and hand-over the tapes.

What is out there in terms of recent/popular DigiBeta cameras? The last time I shot on DigiBeta was in 1999, and the camera was very large and heavy. Are there smaller/lighter cameras now? What would most production-houses/news-crews use?

We also have to edit segments in the field (we'll be filming in a secluded location for a month, and have to send weekly updates to their website). How is DigiBeta transferred to a computer for editing these days (I will be using Vegas)? I assume SDI?

I haven't been able to find this information anywhere, which makes me think that DigiBeta is somewhat dead.

Unfortunately, I can't offer any insight as to which camera to use, but as a funny side note, our local formerly Fox-owned station isn't even using Digi-Beta. An editor I know practically begged for a DigiBeta cam, and they said "no" because they can't buy a "special" camera for him when all of the others were analog. This is current. They are still fully analog except for network broadcasts. So... as far as a customer requiring DigiBeta, they're not as antiquated as Fox 6 Milwaukee. :-P :D

Wow, even DigiBeta is old-school now. You'd be way better off shooting on DVCPRO 50.

I'm pretty sure the Sony DVW 700 camera series is still floating around in rental houses.
