Diffuser Material Question

How close to the bulbs will it be? It'll get hot.

Fiberglas cloth (woven or spun and pressed, for different types of diffusion). Actual silk cloth, too.

A shower curtain, if it will be far enough away from the heat.

Pretty much anything translucent will do...

Hmmm, maybe anywhere from 4 to 10 feet. Just a guess for now... I do know that I would never put anything right up against the cone that they're in; way too hot.

The frame is called an overhead or a butterfly (depending on size and usage) and the material is artificial silk. You can build your own frame with PVC fittings from the hardware store and find the fabric at a local supplier, probably. Cut silk to size (typically 48"x48", 6'x6', 8'x8', or 12'x12') and install grommets around the edges and attach the silk to the frame with some rope, typically the thin cotton type used for clotheslines.

Be careful building out of PVC, it can break in heavy wind and become a projectile. Other solutions in a pinch is using 1x4 frame and staple a shower curtain to it. But if you can get the butterfly is the best and safest solution.

hmmm we do it with aluminium frames drill holes on the end of each side put rivet in it and whalla ! usually will us grid line cloth from lee filters , jus gaffer or tape it at the edges , easy for changing over of any filter
