Difficulty adjusting volume on a single track

Hey guys. The volume on one of my tracks is too loud. Using the fader in the track header I'm able to lower the volume but it applies it to all of my tracks, not just the one that's selected. I've tried ungrouping it, placing it on a different line, but it still applies to all others.

The instructions make it sound like you can apply it to a specific track but I'm obviously missing something. Any help is appreciated.

Also, I have a song that goes with the credits at the end. Since the song is 3 mins long and the credits are 30 seconds, is there a way to have the song slowly fade out rather than end abruptly? This is my first project in Vegas (and in general) so I'm learning as I go.

Edit: I was just able to do it using Audacity but wouldn't hurt to learn it on here

Yes you can have that audio track on a seperate audio track by first creating a seperate audio track and then putting your clip on there (after ungrouping ofcourse) or just ungroup and then drag the audio clip downwards and it will form its own audio track automatically. Then on the left end tab where the track title and controls are you can lower the volume level from the default 0.0 db.

There is also one more way to do this without creating a seperate track, and that is by creating an audio envelope (Shortcut : Select audio track and hit shift+v) you will see a violet line appear over the entire audio track. You can double click a point on that line and create handles which can be moved up and down creating audio curves which can fine tune the volume to your taste in instant changes or slow fades.

Reg your second post here...Thats the easiest. Just grab the end of the song with your cursor and move inwards and the clip would be shortened to which ever place you drag. Then hold the fade handle (shown as a small triangular mark on the begining and end of each clip in the upper corners of the clip), When you hover your mouse over is itself the mouse cursor will change to show a pie slice like icon. That means you ca just grab and move that handle inwards and it will fade accordingly. You can thus have a smooth fadeout. You can even go further and right click on the fade curve you've just created and top most item in the menu that appears you can pick a custom type of Fade.

You can also just lower the gain of any clip -- you drag the blue line down from the top of the clip. Put your cursor up there and watch it change to a little hand with a finger. Then you can drag, just like the opacity control of a video clip.

For future reference -- in terms of editing, a "track" is the timeline "line" a clip rests in. An individual audio clip should be referred to as a "clip" or (as Vegas calls it) an "event." Referring to clips as "tracks" can be very confusing when discussing editing.
