I'd like to start a thread about insurance. Here's what I'm looking into as a busy freelance DP who also sometimes puts productions together acting like a mini production company. I'd love input on what people have, how stuff works etc. I've seen threads, but they are always talking about one particular kind. Below are what I feel may be needed to get legit, protect my assets, and not worry about things. I see about 6 different kinds. What do YOU think?
Insurance covering my owned equipment i use in the field
Insurance covering any equipment i rent from rental houses
Insurance covering any of my equipment i rent out to to other shoots I'm not on
Liability insurance for myself in case i burn down a location or drop a light on someone's head (extreme i know, but certainly possible), the consensus seems to be 1,000,000 coverage is the amount needed
Some sort of insurance that will pay me if I'm hurt and cant work
Errors and Omissions insurance (I'm not too interested in this at this point, but it should be on the list)
I recently tried asking Allstate since i have my homeowners insurance through them, but it is definitely NOT in their realm of expertise. I'm looking for any opinions on the matter, rates, personal experiences, references, etc. Thanks!!!!
