Hi all - Quick Vegas question for you regarding MPEG-2 rendering.
I take footage from the local city council meeting (usually 1-3 hours, depending on length of meeting), capture it to Vegas, then output to an MPEG-2 file which is uploaded to the city's software program that replays the meeting back on local cable TV.
The only restraint I've had is that the file cannot exceed 4GB in the city's software system. For the past couple years I've used Vegas Pro 8 and, using the 'default' render setting for MPEG-2, a 90-minute meeting generally came out to around 2GB. (for lengthy meetings, I would just render out two separate files to stay under the 4GB limit, then post them back-to-back in the playback server)
I've now upgraded to Vegas 10. My MPEG-2 render of a 90-minute meeting using the 'default' render setting came out to 5.2GB, much bigger than my previous experience. I notice there are some other templates I haven't seen before and I am currently re-rendering using the '= DVD NTSC' template to see if it comes out any smaller.
My questions: Why is there such a large difference in the end-size of the file between the two versions? And ... what would you suggest I do to render the file down to a more appropriate size for what I am dealing with?
I noticed the render time was fairly similar to what I've experienced in Vegas 8, so I assume this is just Vegas making a better-quality MPEG-2 default with the newer version. Thanks in advance.
