Difference Matte

Is there a way to do this (Difference Matte) within Final Cut Pro or even Motion 2?
I know that you can do it in Adobe After Effects, but I unfortunately do not own a copy.
Any suggestions?

Actually, any advice as far as putting the same person in the shot multiple times?

I've created three different plates: one clean plate and two plates with the subject on different sides of the frame.

How should this work in FCP? I put the clean slate on V1, and the subject plates on V2 and V3, applying difference mattes of the clean plate to both V2 and V3.

It's still not looking exactly how I want. Any suggestions?

Place one clip on V1 and one on V2. Add 4 point garbage matte to V2. Adjust one side of the garbage matte to reveal v1. No need for a difference matte in this case.
Note that difference matting almost always requires 'cleanup' work or additional roto to make work. This is due to video/film grain and limited response. If you need a critical overlay you may need to roto which FCP doesn't offer.
