Difference in Quicktime vs FCP displays

When I exported a sequence in FCP as a quicktime movie (best quality) I noticed that it looked different from the canvas display in FCP--a bit brighter with more noise. BUT when I brought the qt movie into the the FCP timeline it looked exactly the same as the pre-exported footage, suggesting there's a difference in how things are displayed b/w FCP AND QT. Someone I know noticed this too and suggested going into System Settings>Playback Control and switching the Gamma Correction to approximate, but that didn't really help. I want to know how my footage is going to look BEFORE I export it. Any suggestions?

Also the dimensions of the QT movie looked distorted (longer with the same height) when I export with the size as current. The dimensions looked the same as that of the canvas display (at 100%) when I exported as 640x480 instead of "current." BUT they both look the same when brought into the FCP timeline. ?????

for the size issue, it is because QT was displaying the video with square pixels rather than their native .9 pixel aspect. Your video is 720x480, but that is with unsquare pixels.

The color issue has been discussed ad nauseum. There are plenty of threads you can read through using the search function.

In FCP, if you look in the Canvas window, the 1st of the three main buttons (I forget it's name), when pressed will allow you to choose to view in the correct aspect ratio. If you want to view your content on a computer then what you need to do is compress it using square pixels.
