Difference between Bogen 503 and 519

I currently have a Bogen 501, which like I read in one of the many tripod posts, is total garbage. I hate it. I got spoiled on $3000 tripods when I worked in news.

Anyway, I'm looking to upgrade to a TRUE fluid head. I have a 75mm ball, so I can only go up to the 519 as the top item. Any feedback on what the difference is between the two?

NIGHT AND DAY!!! Seriously, I had a bogen 501 with dvx100a (ok to bad), have bogen 503 with light sticks and it is usable but my 519 with 525 legs is very nice. Almost went with a vinten vision 3 but I like that the 519 can be dialed in with the counter spring. Price performance with the 519 is good. I think B&H or adorama has the best price on it.

and if you can't spring for the 519, the 516 I just got is plenty big for the camera, and an fs100... and probably a 35mm adapter too... the 503 will hold the camera, but probably not much else. It works great for the DVX, but the HVX is significantly heavier. Good luck!

I have the 503, very happy with it. I have tried others, such as the 519 and don't feel I need more... I wouldn't say the 501 is garbage, quite the oposite (i have a 501 as well). I can appreciate people wanting the best... sure the Porsche would be nice to have, however the Toyota will suffice to take me where I want to go... I should also add, that I used my 501 with an Arri 16mm, which was sigificantly heavier than my HVX (which I use with an HD monitor, FF, matte box, base plate, etc...).

The 501 sucks??? Come on guys you have to spend 5 times as much money to get a setup that's marginally better. Has value lost all value?
