Did we discuss this? Website Hell

Noob me if this has been posted. Hilarious.

All of this could be applied to TV commercial production, when the client gets involved. Can you make the design "pop" a bit more?

Also similar to a director/producer relationship no? Sometimes at least.

Which is how bad... anything gets made.

You could apply it to any creative field where money is involved I guess.

The clients love to junk it up, don't they?

I know this all too well. I remember one client in particular, she bought a Mac... because that is what artists use, right? She found a business card design program on it, and made her own business card, and wanted the site to reflect this look. The problem with that is, the card looked like Don Ho threw up all over it, with all shades of day glow palm trees and what not.

Well, having some integrity, I did my best to incorporate some of the look, and yet not be a total insult to humanity. I did a good job, and finished the site. Three weeks of "could you just", and well... I hope I won't rot in hell for what it became.

You won't.
Part of being professional is to deliver exactly what clients want. As long they are paid to do x number of revisions to any project, graphic or web designers should be obliging to any request whether it complies with their own aesthetics or not. If you are an uncompromising artist, or it hurts to see your vision crippled by commissioned work, you can always get satisfaction by devoting some of your time to personal projects, where you have full creative control. True art is not motivated by money, and if money is involved there is no true art.

lol
This hits close to home. I had a guy with a very 90s site ask me to modernize it and I spent a while redesigning it from scratch. His revision?
I want it more like what it was before but more modern.

Had a meeting with a couple to discuss their new site and came away from the meeting with the womans burgandy sweater,a pink bell with gold buckle and a couple of magazine clipings.

The site was for an air purification / herbal vitamin type site but you would think it was for mabeline or revlon. I gave them 3 layouts, 2 with their pink colors and 1 of my designs with a nice blue with some gold on the navbar. They picked mine.

Pretty much 95% of the time I get approval on the first layout so I'm pretty fortunate but sometimes have clients that want some horrible looking stuff. Had a freind tell me once that it's the clients money and if they want a seafoam green background give it to them and cash the check. Sometimes doing that is tough but if I don't like the way it came out I don't include in my portfolio.
