Dialogue in Car best mic

What would be an ideal mic(s) to use in a car to record dialogue between two actors and the most suitable placement location?

Thanks

your question say nothing about how you shoot it and since that there no answer to get .
moving vehicle , dragged by trailer
open windows /not open windows
side mounted camera , front ,
side and front
rear mounted camera
2 people sit in the front , 1 in the front and one in the back
do they wear sit belts

better qwestion - better answer

More info would be helpful but even then getting good sound from a car is achieved through experimentation for the particular car and situation. No real set standard way of doing it or standard mic that will work best for all situations.

Cheers

2 Trams under the dash panel where the instruments (speedometer etc..) are. For the driver, mount the mic right underneath that little stub that you use to set the odometer, directly against the plexiglass (crucial). For the passenger; on or in the glove compartment (door open).

Windshields create phase hell, especially if the lavs are mounted on the people.

The instrument panel's sun bill or visor acts as a shield from the main windshield reflection and they (the Trams) rarely get picked up by the camera. Note, I'm not talking about the sun visor that's mounted on the top that the diver & passenger use to shield from glare and sun. You could mic there but it's way more prone to reflection from the glass and the visor will need to be down to counteract this problem. The DP will NOT want the visor down.

Anyway, your choice to run wires to the back seat, where you will probably be, or to run wires to the wireless transmitters.

If using wireless, tape them alongside the drive shaft hood (the section between the passengers that's raised and has the armrest, drink holders etc...). Usually that armrest raises for storage so just put the two wireless transmitters in there.

Bring lots of gaffer tape. The turn signals WILL be loud (but cool) - trust me.

Great sound is half the picture!

its a vague question.

i've had heaps of great experiences with towed cars and windows up situations using hypers mounted x/y behind and a touch above the gear stick.

still waiting for an opportunity to use my CUB-01 in a suitable car! Apparently thats pretty cool too.

Did the scene from hell today on a doc in a convertible 1969 volkswagen beetle. wow those cars are loud. I got nice results from COS-11 on the (single) driver, and boomed with CMC6/41 from overhead - would have preferred to change to shotgun, but this was super spur of the moment with no time to change mics. sounded quite good actually, clear voice; just ridiculously high noise floor on the lav AND the boom.

anyone got any reccomendations for cub placements in cars? I tried mine out yesterday and was a bit disappointed - i had a cos11 on the talent, and the cub on the visor, but the cos11 totally killed the cub. bummer. i must have done something wrong, or i just dont like the sound of the cub for that application. suggestions?

mooving car 9 engine on , windows), or standing .

the pzm not work to well with open windows
beside that you need quit of hard space under it , sp plexi glass sticked to the visor will do better .
i usially prefer cardioidb schoeps with knee looking down .

im with you there. I've had much better luck with hypers and lavs. I'll stick to using the cub in doorways and etc etc etc!

cheers..
