Device Control question

I seem to have all sorts of questions/problems lately... most of which I can usually work my way through. This one has me stumped...

Lately... when capturing from my DVX100a, I don't have total control of the camera. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Quite often, it may start
the camera/capture... frequently, it will not stop the camera (I'll have to physically stop the camera with the toggle control). Then... this am... while
trying to capture, it would control the camera, but the video wouldn't appear in the capture window. It may or may not allow me to control the camera.

Actually the whole system seems sluggish. I'm currently running disc checks and de-fragging all of the drives... but something tells me that's not going to help much. In the back of my mind... (if I have one left) I'm wondering if re-loading PPro would do any good... Any suggestions from onboard...???

This forum does help me keep sane at times...

Thanks...

First of all, be sure to turn off your camcorder before connecting it. Then connect it, turn it on and just in case, give the system 20..30 seconds to recognize connected hardware. Sometimes it takes that much time.
Then open the Capture window (or press F5) and everything should be fine. Camcorders and decks do not respond to device control commands instantly. There's always some delay and it's normal.
I hope it helps.

Thanks for the reply... but that's not it.

I've always powered the camera down before connecting or disconnecting to/from the computer. That way I wont run the risk of shorting out, or burning up the IEEE / firewire board.

That wouldn't explain why sometimes the image doesn't appear in the capture window either...

Thanks again... still looking...

I had similar problem once or twice when tried to start capturing too soon. I guess there was some conflict between Windows and PP. Besides that, everything runs perfect.

Hard to say what's causing your problem. Did defragmenting help? If there are some problems with the filesystem, your machine may hang or respond very slowly. Also double check if you have the latest IEEE-1394 driver installed.

Added: Just in case, re-install your 1394 driver.
