Detonation films and ppro 1.5

I need some serious help... I'm 3 sequences away from editing my first feature film... and I'm stuck on the muzzle flashes for these gun fights. I would like to try and use some of the detonation films flashes and sparks, but the tutorial they have for using the footage is in premeire 6... I can't figure out how to make the background transparent so that I can use it... Has anybody done it in ppro 1.5? can somebody walk me through it?

Thanks to all,

If they're psd files, transparency carries over to premiere. If the background is black with the muzzle flashes, you apply a multiply effect on it. You'd be better off inserting the flashes frame by frame though in photoshop so you get it tracked exactly how you want it, rather than tweening motion paths in the editor.

If you need more of an explanation, just say so and I will try to develop what I said a bit more.

Hey dj...

thanks for the quick response. The files are mainly .mov and .avi files... you can check them out at detonationfilms.com.

I made some of my own muzzle flashes in photoshop, I think they're okay, but I was wanted something a bit more realistic than what I came up with.

If I could just get rid of that black background as easy as they did in their premiere 6 tutorial, I would be totally set. If you have time, maybe you can check out the demo they have for premiere 6 and figure out how it differs from 1.5 ... (I know it's a lot to ask, but I'm pretty desperate. :)

Thanks for the help.

Use the luma or screen filters under the video effects, keying section. Play with the settings to remove the black in the clips.

wait is it multiply or screen that gets rid of black? I get the two confused because one gets rid of white and one gets rid of black :(

It takes only 1 sec to try the different filters - screen should remove black but luma sometimes works better.
