Detecting Displays on a Windows Computer

Hey all,

My grandfather can't walk very well and he spends alot of time in a chair. He loves horse racing. I have an account where I can watch live streaming video on the computer and bet on the live races. He'd love to be able to do this with me, but he lacks computer skills and can't look at the small screen.

We've tried many ways to connect it to the television, and I know my Macintosh works, but the Windows won't.

How can I detect displays such as a television hooked up to the computer through S-video and components?

Here's the situation:

S-video port plugged in -- adapted to -- Yellow Video Component -- Television

How can I detect the television on Windows XP?

Thanks,

zach

Some video cards have buried features provided by the real driver, not the XP generic driver. Download the latest driver for your video card, make sure directX (Microsoft) is up to date, and try poking around in the video properties panel (R-click desktop, properties, settings, etc.) for the output selector. Worse case scenario: buy a cheap scan convertor from your local computer store to convert RGB to NTSC.

What kind of video card is it?

The steps should be
Control Panel
Display
Settings TAb
Advanced
Displays Tab
If it's ATI it should show 4 choices
CRT, CRT, FPD, and TV
From there you should be able to clone the primary display to the secondary your TV

You know ive always wanted to preview video on my monitor.... but i cant figure it out. I am using Vegas 5. there is a external display option, but like, it only shows IEEEE1394 compliant devices. no options for Svideo Out. am i missing something?

Y'know, I have Vegas 4.0

I tried once to run the Firewire to a DV Cam then output the cam to a monitor. Try that.

No. Vegas only previews out by firewire.

Well we got it working with the help of some DVI-VGA-Svideo-Component Wires.

Also... for everyone who wants to put video onto a TV, it works almost perfectly with the Macintosh.

They even give you an S-Video to Composite cord in the box. Sweet.
