I need to build a wall that i can throw an actor thru with debris and wood flying out of it. I assumes drywalls fills with morter powder and balsa wood peieces and a little bit of colored foam. Anybody else have any ideas or videos they can share?
I posted on the above thread also. My suggestion to all that want the "Actor" to do his own stunts...make sure that you shoot it last.... after all of the other dialogue for the movie is done.
I would use 1/4" drywall (or 1/2" with deep pre-scored breaks on the insdie of the wall so that it will come apart more easily on both sides) with an open space (no studs) where you want to throw the actor through. I wouldnt fill it tight with anything or it will be very hard. i would just sandwich some pre shattered boards (balsa or some other light wood for saftey) in between the sheetrock into stud position where the actor is going to fly through so that they arent actually structural in any way, and will simply push out the back when they go through. some drywall dust and other various light debris poured down from the top in between the sheetrock layers into the open space onto the sandwiched boards at various angles will give enough of an effect for you. walls dont normally explode into a huge dustorm with debris flying everywhere when you break through them, so you want to keep it somewhat realistic with a little extra for that spectacular cinematic effect. If your only seeing them come out the back, i would pre-break the inside drywall, and just dust up the actor and have them go through only the backside.
