Despicable Me

Our entire family enjoyed it Saturday night also. It was a great story and just plain old entertaining. Steve Carrel(sp) really played his part well. I loved the little minions....lol.

I loved the idea of it. But, it was definitely lacking. There were many missed humor opportunities and I thought the script was missing some flavor. The little yellow guys were cute and Steve Carell was Steve Carell (which is totally awesome) but the story was such a great premise and I thought they could have done so much more.

*Spoiler Alert*
I think the main problem lies with Steve Carell's character. I felt that they didn't commit to him being super evil. Look at every other super successful animated film and what they have is a really bad, bad guy. It just works. Even if the bad guy isn't much of an antagonist, he is someone whom we couldn't see falling in love with 3 little orphans. Like the chef or food critic from "Ratatouille". Or Scar from "The Lion King." Or, the even the boss from "The Incredibles" was more of a sinister character than Gru. I thought Gru was a softee from the beginning.

I thought it was a very entertaining flick. It was cute. It had its moments but it could have been so much more.
