hi, my name is ben and it's my dream to become a snowboard filmer. i cant afford to buy 16mm film at this time, and i'm in high school. if you ever have any film you dont need (highly doubt), please send it to me. ill pay shipping and, like, 10 bucks for your troubles. i know this probably will never happen, but its worth a shot. be my hero!

thanks
ben

ps. ill give you a shout out when im famous...and double your film back

I hate to say this becuase I love film, but have you thought about shooting video? This kind of action sports footage is almost never shot on film anymore. Just a thought.

i have a dvx, it drained me pretty much. super 8 is great, i like the look. but i doubt i'd ever shoot it. it just doesnt seem worth it to me.

16mm is awesome in skate videos, the biggest companies usually have a 16mm montage always

I know what you mean, 16mm look so good in skate videos like time to shine or way out east, but if you shot in film (16mm) then i would just slowly save up money for it, also how about the 16mm camera and every thing else that comes with it, then processing, telecine , and everything else. it going get really expensive... you should see if can get good deal for film at diffrent place. or have some of your friend help pay. then it will be easier to get thing sone and faster. good luck.

you planning to edit FILM or edit digitally ?
you have a camera ? does it take 100ft loads or cores or both ..
if you telecine are you going to SD ? HD ? ?
can you afford processing ?.. workprint or telecine ?

digital
planning on renting bolex from a friend for free
SD
yes, ive found a very cheap site and the first 100ft roll is free as a sample. im only gonna shoot like 3 or 4 rolls probably

would you have some way of breaking down a 400 ft core into 4 100 ft rolls ..
you would need 4 day light 100ft spools .. 2-400ft split reels ( or 1 split reel and 400ft reel) ... 16mm rewinds .. dark room ...

Kodak has some ultra low speed daylight balanced reversal that I've never used but is probably $30 per daylight spool plus $20 or so to develop or maybe less. Tri-X is a classic but black and white.

Just remember, a roll is about a minute and a half and editing is a massive pain. I'd recommend saving film for narrative work (which doesn't require such a high shooting ratio) unless you're loaded, though. Everyone should at least try 16mm, though. It's a lot of fun.

Dude, 100ft rolls are pretty cheap. Does your friend have a light meter also?

Check this auction out: http://cgi.ebay.com/LOT-OF-6-16mm-KODAK-VISION-2-FILM-ROLLS_W0QQitemZ200094289682QQcategoryZ4200QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Also this, look at the Fuji 250D:

im gonna go for that fuji, its pretty cheap. why buy a roll? after u buy one spool, can the rest be rolls? to u need just one spool and then take the film off and use it for a different roll?

those are all negative films, correct? whats the cheapest, decent site to get negatives telecined? thanks

www.mymovietransfer.com looks really cheap. They don't transfer Super 16, but they will do regular 16 which I presume is what you are shooting?

All the film you order should be spooled on 100ft daylight reels. That means the film will come on metal reels, just like if you bought it straight from Fuji. I have spoken to the guy at raw stock; he is very helpful. Just tell him that's what you need.

I'm not so sure to be honest. A search on YouTube for 8mm or super 8 brings up tons of skate and snowboarding footage. No idea why, but 8mm is really popular in those kinds of sports. Perhaps because the footage that is shot of sports is usually very similar, they are trying to go for a different look. Go figure.

I shoot snowboarding professionally and I would recommend you get into video first, then 16mm when you have good riders and a budget behind the project. Take your time... each 100' roll is only 2 1/2 minutes at 24fps...less with slow mo... good luck
