Desks & Furniture

What do you recommend for workstation-class desks? I'm looking for cheaper alternatives to dedicated video editing deskstations, which tend to cost video editing prices. Something that can easily accomodate a pair of 24" monitors and, ideally, a shelving system or wing for a reference monitor.

for cheap I like Ikea. I have a desk and a table from them. The desk I took and put a CD rack horizontally on top of the desk, and put the monitors (two 19" & a 17") on it and where the cds would normally go I have space for external drives, mac mini whatever. and they make metal shelves that bolt on the side that hold two towers and a printer... though the G5 is too tall to fit under the desk so the shelf is mounted on the outside leg.. My desk is messy but I can find a picture.. i think it cost a total of 100 for desk 50 for cd rack 10 for each tower shelf and 15 for the printer shelf.. $185+ tax..

I think some of the Anthro stuff is cheaper, although I may be wrong. You could also consider having one built if you have a carpenter friend- that's what I'm doing. Also, I know here in Portland, there is a place that sells used office furniture for pretty cheap, and I saw some good workstations in there the other day, maybe there is a similar place in LA?

You might want to consider building as someone suggested. Ihave been fighting with various desks and Im just sick of it. I use a spare bedroom as my editing room so Ihave the flexability to utilize the entire space. I went to home depot and they have this plywood with a white "plastic" coating starts with an M, im sure someone on here knows what i mean. They even have already drilled planks of thsi stuff that can be made into a bookcases. So two entire walls are getting a extra deep work desk, two or three ceiling high book and deck cases. etc.. It wont be that hard. After all i took woodshop 15 years ago and since then have watched countless hours of Bob Villa.....if i dont post in the near future its probably because i accidently cut off both my typing fingers.

I have the Jerker workstation sold here in Canada by Ikea.
It has options and many configuration possibilities.
I use it as a stand up workstation for editing.
Solid Metal,---CPU can be attached up off the floor.
Other swing out platforms can be added for scanners, printers.
Lots of room for monitors, speakers etc.
Like this was made for the video editor.
And no,---I don't work at Ikea.
Not even Swedish.

I bought the Jerker desk system several years ago (an earlier model, which has a slightly different desk top shape from the current model). It was/is an amazing value and is extremely versatile. Highly recommended! And no, I don't have any connection to IKEA either. (But when I was a kid one of my uncles kept calling me "Big Swede" on account of my blond hair).
