Desaturation

OK many topics on google talking about what desaturation is. My question is this: When desaturating what effect does it have on the image? Do you simply lose color information? Any thoughts?

Desaturation effects color level. It allows you (with the Premiere filter), to select the level of coloration you want your footage to have. Saturation can also be boosted, using the same feature.

Heh thanks Josh....

Fixitinpost ... sorry I should make myself clearer. I understand the effect saturation/desaturation has on the look of the image. My question is: What effect does it have on the image information? as in desaturating actually removes it?

Basically
If the Desaturation is set as low as possible, you will have a Black and white image, slowly raise it, colors Slowly begin to come in, very pale, and dull
all the way up you have Harsh Bright Colors!
basically controls how much the color saturates the picture

Ah, I think I see what you're saying. The filter (as are all in Premiere) is non-destructive. It doesn't actually change the information contained in the source footage. It merely affects it. Unless, of course, you render. But you will still have the origional file.

Hope that was what you were looking for... or do I still not understand?
