Hi guys hope you can help, really need to buy a plugin for final cut pro that will allow me to do a demon warp face for an advert, like this http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/demon_face_warp/

but can only find for after effects and not final cut pro.

Can anyone help me here

okay, well I dont have after effects only fcp, fair enough. How about old damage film look plug in?

I'm sure there are others, but Nattress has an old film look setting on one of their plugins.

Another cheap method is to find some old Super8 or projected "blank" footage and use a transfer mode (or composite mode as FCP likes to call them). There's a common file out there called "real_8mm_film.mov" Search in google and you should find a download source.

Final Cut is for editing and not for animating. I'd suggest you stick with After Effects.

Horrible answer!

While that is something that can be done easily in After Effects and generally not in FCP, I know if I took my time I could figure it out using Apple Motion together with FCP. So look into Apple Motion techniques and I'm more than sure it can be done.

To be fair, Motion (while included in Final Cut Studio) is separate from Final Cut. I took his response to mean "use a compositing program like after effects rather than final cut."

Also to be fair, he provided a straight answer that was not helpful at all. Apple Motion comes with FCP and they can easily be integrated with one another. So instead of saying stick to after effects which the OP clearly does not have he could have suggested to use APPLE MOTION which comes bundled with FCP.

The problem is people not helping one another, that's where I come in.

thanks mate i have apple motion, will see if there are any tutorials that can aid me in this, just spent couple of hours debating whether or not to buy adobe after effects then looking at the dreaded workflow of having to buy adobe premier to transform my fcp video codec into a codec acceptable by adobe after effects. If there is a way to do it in motion, ud save me a bundle :)

Not sure what you're talking about here. You don't need premiere for anything. What codec are you using?

Anyway, as already mentioned, this should be doable in Motion. I prefer AE, so I haven't really touched Motion much recently. I'd check out the forums and tutorials on creativecow for help.

Motion renders much faster than After Effects, but the results tend to seem decades behind the results you can achieve in After Effects. It depends on the project. Also After Effects has the awesome Video Copilot tutorials to rely upon and learn from, where Motion has jack in the way of tutorials. I generally use Motion for quick and easy advanced titles, After Effects for 3d work with depth (even if Motion can do 3D, the integration isn't quite as good--plus, the tutorials).

So what I'm trying to say is, Motion is a faster but cheaper version of AE. Don't know if you can achieve the demon warp as such but I would think something similar is possible.

Is this a "one shot" deal?

If so, grab yourself the 30day CS-5/AE demo from adobe.com.

While I do agree with several posters that an effect like this can be achieved in Motion...I, too, agree that AE is a friendlier and more efficient way to produce the effect you're after. If you dig the trial, look around on your local Craigslist or Ebay for an older version of AE or one of the production suites. Find a reliable seller that's not using the program, and you can save several hundred bucks. I'm still using CS4 along side FCP...and a colleague of mine is still getting plenty of mileage out of CS3 AE. YMMV. BUT, if you can get 'er done in 30 days, it won't cost you a dime and you can then decide if it'll be a worthwile addition to your FCP suite.

Check out creativecow or lynda.com for tutorials..$25 at lynda and a few hours of your time, you'll be up and running on AE

Good Luck

lol, funny guy here. After Effects is an $700+ program, to go and tell someone to buy it knowing they have FCP that comes with MOTION just further shows you have no idea what you are doing.
While Motion is good for what it does, AE does a lot of things Motion can't. Now, if you combine Shake and Motion, you are much closer to what you get in AE.
