Demo Reel Question

I'm in the process of putting together a new demo reel and I was wondering what, if any "rules" there are around showcasing ones work.

For example, should I put all of the interview clips together, all of the motion graphics together etc. or is it OK to use random placement (assuming the flow is good)?

Any thoughts and tips would be greatly appreciated.....

Thanks!

There aren't any rules, though "branding" is the hot topic in demo reels these days. Gear your reel toward the kind of job you want to get.

Which may mean doing several separate reels -- one for interviews, one for motion graphics, etc.

By current "branding" theories, that's not what you should do. You should pick the thing of those you really want to do and concentrate on it, to the exclusion of the others.

I didn't make it up; I'm only saying what the current thinking is.

Have not found this to be as true as people claim, although for more saturated markets it is. Big difference between running a small production company and being a freelance motion graphics designer. Both valid pursuits that can be represented in a reel...

(Fwiw the reel in my signature is not what I make money off of, that's the hobby.)
