Hello,
I'm an aspiring DP. Just had a question in regards to demo reels. I've got enough footage I'm proud of to cut a reel together, however it is a very wide range of stuff. So like the title of this thread my question is...is it cheezy to mix footage of different types...aka cutting a shot from a commercial, then a narrative, then a doc etc... I simply don't have enough footage to do seperate reels for each genre, but I do have enough accross the board...opinions?? I mean really I'm showing off lighting, composition, camera movement right...so would it really matter if it was all commercials, or narratives in the reel. Any comments/suggestions would be great.

I think that as long as its cinematography the wider the range in a reel the better (sometimes). Other times you may want to stick to a single genre if you want to get jobs in that specific genre. For example my reel is mainly thriller and drama because I focus on that genre.

all these Dp's here and only one response...comon ya'll I know you've got some input in you(:

show everything you want. all of your good shots. not to long and pick a good music. be careful about the aspect ratio.

keep it comin
