Dell 24" 2407WFP

I ended up with the gateway 24" - I love it - its noisy and I dont trust the color, but for focusing its fantastic! I will say though for 720 material its not the greatest, I only use it with a 1080 signal though.

Did you adjust the monitor?

PM USLatinContent and ask him what he thinks about the Dell vs Gateway. He's always honest and will tell ya what he thinks. I'm not sure if he's happy with the Gateway, but that's a good way to find out if you made a better choice.

I turned off all the post sharpening so it doesn't expose the HVX's noise so much. Component from a real HD source looks so much better, I tested it to make sure that it was just the HVX's common noise and not the screen. I.E PS3, BluRay, and even Broadcast HD.

guys, you have to understand - computer monitors ARE NOT reference monitors - PERIOD.

youre not going to get a computer LCD monitor (or consumer HDTV) to display color accurate or on-set, reference quality focus without an external device like the matrox MXO.

Thanks man for the reply,
i read the matrox site but this device is ONLY under mac so far !!!
my question was if the Dell monitor actually has an option to flip the image, to be able to see proper image from the 35mm adapters ..!!
Thanks again,
Amr

3-5 WEEKS before the Dell ships

3-5 WEEKS before the Dell ships

I, too, was trying to decide between the 23" Apple Cinema Display and the 24" Dell 2407 WFP. The Dell site says it will be 3-5 weeks before it even ships out. I called to question this and, 25 minutes in Dell hell later, it was confirmed: 3-5 weeks.

That seems ridiculous to me. I'm this close to getting either the Apple or, because I don't need broadcast calibration, the Gateway FPD2485W instead.

NONE of these monitors is broadcast quality without some additional external device.
and i cant think of any that will flip their image. many projectors do because they are made to mount in various positions. but there is just no need for a desktop monitor to add flip functions. there is software that will do this. but it requires a computer to be connected so thats a deal breaker for a field monitor.

as a side note, i have heard of a few folks getting basic color and focus monitoring from a mid priced projector - but they still wouldnt seriously color grade with anything shy of a true broadcast monitor...

there is NO flatpanel out there (unless it says that its made FOR THAT PURPOSE) thats going to give you color and focus accurate HD image for less than several thousand dollars

dell is having a LOT of fulfillment issues right now. seems more people want their gear than they can manufacture

I've been using the gateway for a few months now off and on in a studio environment and its been great for focus (not using a 35mm adapter, just a bare hvx), and great for framing and getting everyone away from the camera. I dont trust it anymore than I do the lcd for color. I've done enough testing with the environment that we are shooting in though to not need adjust any settings every time. As for flipping it I've got a baby plate bolted to the back (drilled some new holes in the plate) and it just sits on a c-stand so you could flip it if you wanted.
