Hey everyone,

Just finished my first music video. The record label has asked I supply 10 DVDs to send to Music Channels to see if they want to show it, (If they do, they will the get Digibeta copies. DVDs are just to see who's interested).

The question is, what is the best way to supply it? I.e, should there be DVD menus? Does it need one of those black screens with a countdown clock, with the name of the director etc? Or should it just play the video and nothing else?

And once thats done, what about he digibeta copies?

I'm really trying to get the most professional delivery here, so any help would be awesome.

Thanks so much,
Rich

DVD should have a simple menu with any relevant information on it. One button, just to play the video.

as for the digibeta outputs, render your video out to an uncompressed video file and take it to a post house. they can lay it back to tape for you.

Hey, thanks for the reply. When you say relevent information on the DVD menu, what do you mean exactly?

I was thinking...

Director
Running time
Aspect ratio
Format (PAL/NTSC)

Any others you'd add?

Thanks for your help,
Rich

the master will have a minute of bars and tone, 8 seconds of slate, two seconds of black and the show will start at one hour even.

place do not copy somewhere or dont give the full res picture,
some how leave a time counter or soemthing that keeps station pirates from showing your dvd on air!!or uploading!!!

simply place a cuonter or your logo on the video lower third or top right every other minute!
dont just give away the whole goods !!!!keep your rights to it!!!

i have examples if you want to see them,

Holy cr*p... that sentence really makes no sense to me at all. I'm so sorry for being annoying, but I really have tried my hardest to find this kind of stuff out on my own, but I'm really struggling

@ Luis Caffesse: Duh! Yeah you're right, sorry!

@ joemiked: We aren't worrid about that. its a small band, so ANY exposure (no matter if its infringing copyright) is good as far as we are concerned.

man if that doesnt make sense, your not gonna be sending any masters out.
I suggest outsourcing this.

A record company will tell you what to put on the DVD menu.

Usually...

Title
Artist
TRT - (total running time)
Date
Production Company
Director

And any contact info the record company wants to put on there. A&R but mostly marketing and pub contacts

All info should be on the actual DVD as well.

Don't be fancy with the DVD menu... just "play"

If the record company needs to get the video to a network for airing they will make a copy.... that should not be your responsibility unless your contract says so.

Most networks/companies have rules

Here are some basic ones.

Broadcast Safe - Color and Brightness
Closed Captioned - ALL MTV NETWORKS REQUIRE THIS.
BARS AND TONE
SLATE - all information above.

If you do have to deliver a Digibeta count on 300-350 US for the master.

Ntsc/pal??

Ntsc/pal??

No need to label this until you get to a tape master....again the Post House will label the tape with the correct format.

Make sure your DVD's have no country codes as well

True. Ive already arranged a company to make the digibetas - I guess I can just ask them to do whatever they need to do for broadcast.

I've delivered a number of music videos to broadcast (much music) and here's how I set up the Dbeta:

00:58:10:00 - 00:58:30:00 - black
00:58:30:00 - 00:59:30:00 - bars & tone
00:59:30:00 - 00:59:40:00 - black
00:58:40:00 - 00:59:50:00 - slate (use pretty much what people have said above)

I don't usually put a full counter, just a visual (& audible) 2 beep at 00:59:58:00
then start of picture at 01:00:00:00

This format is pretty industry standard and unless the broadcaster specifies otherwise you'll be good to go with this.
