Deliverance

Finally saw this movie for the first time on HDNET...That has to be one of the worst scenes I've ever seen enacted on film. Just gouge your eyes out, I wish I hadn't just seen that awful. Anyone who's seen it knows what I'm talking about. Of course, that was the filmmaker's intention, but there is something about the straightforward, unflinching way it's shot that makes the deed even more disgusting...It's a great film. Other then some strange, posterized looking day for night photography, it's beautifully shot, too. John Voight is great in it (back when he was a real actor, not starring in Baby Geniuses 2), as is Burt Reynolds and Ned Beatty. After seeing this and Point Blank, I'm gaining more respect for John Boorman. Even Excalibur, which I used to dislike, I'm starting to enjoy on its own terms. Anyway, I highly recommend seeing this film, and it's kind of required viewing as it's become a cultural punchline.

He's made some dooseys but also some good ones. I don't know about Excalibur but I like Hope and Glory too. I've got Hell In The Pacific coming soon. Only 2 actors in the whole movie (Toshiro Mifune and Lee Marvin) and Conrad Hall shooting. can't wait to check it out.

What realy struck me about that film is that - even if it is pretty old - it doesn´t look it. I mean most of the time you can tell the decade a film was made, just by the technical look (not hair, clothing, cars) .

Deliverance could have be made yesterday, regarding of camera, light, grading, and editing.
