Delays in microphone, wireless transmitter, mixer, camera, etc...

I *have* tried them out and have also looked at the radiation pattern compared to the spectrum mask.

But the Zaxcom to the US spec. is very different to that made to ISO specs.

The US one I saw is illegal in Europe and, from what you say, the very broad transmission spectrum enables them to get a much lower latency.

The ISO spectrum mask used in Europe is very much narrower than the US one and the ones we tried were to this spec. and the latency was noticeable.

I suppose it's unfair to compare a US version to the international version.

From the website the bandwidth used in the 'european' versions of a mic and a transceiver I looked at, was just over half that of the US version, namely 200K(US), and 125K(EU).

So, yeah, I'd agree it's not quite an equal comparison.

What I also noticed, is that the devices operate for their audio path, in the UHF band, and have some sort of 'control' interface that operats in the 2.4 GHz ISM band... and they
have local recording as an insurance policy...

I know there are people using the Zaxcoms over in Europe. I've never sold any over there. I'd have to talk with Glenn Sanders at Zaxcom to see how many that have working over there. There are people all over the world using them. I would imagine they are most prevalent here in the states. But to the main point that digital wireless "just don't work"...that really isn't true.

I never said that digital wireless "just don't work", they do work - but there are compromises at the moment and they don't yet, as far as I am aware, fully equal a good analogue system.

NB: This is based on ISO specs. US specs have a much larger frequency mask which means that the manufacturer has much more leeway, and compromises that have to be done to meet the ISO spec. may not have to be done to meet the US spec.

Darn, now that you have pointed this out I'm sure the FCC will sell off some more feq. so we can get up to the European standard... ;~)

The US spec. is much wider so, in theory, you can make a higher quality unit and digital transmission is very much easier with far less compromises that have to be done to meet the ISO specs.

The downside is that you can get far fewer channels in a TV band than you can with a system made to ISO specs.

Also, there are no RoHS regulations at the moment in the USA.

Ah the difficulty of humor on the web. I was joking. The FCC (the US office that regulates broadcasting) has been busy selling off bandwidth and cutting back on the space previously used by wireless mics.

Zaxcom has distributors across Europe and around the world. Perhaps they have been lucky and have escaped the notice of the Euro-Authorities. Or Mr. Willett could be mistaken.

And as for RoHS, it doesn't matter whether there are laws in the US. It is a global economy and everyone must conform to the most stringent rules (in this case, the EU) or else effectively go out of business.

A little bit out of topic, could this digital induced delay be the cause of broadcasting channels sending live events be out off sync with each other while sending the same event "live" nowadays?

No. That is caused by different path link distances, modes (fibre, microwave, satellite, etc. etc.) and different processing paths and equipment used by the various networks, satellite channels, etc.

Zaxcom make two different versions, a US one and another for other territories. I have seen them both.
