Deity PR-4 mirroless strategy

Hi
Ive acquired the Deity PR4 audio recorder. for use with a mirror-less camera (canon R6, or R6v)

This can work like a hotshoe XLR box to produce 48v power and feed the camera audio, but also do more complex audio too.

One thing is I can roll wild track (room-tone) or just chatter without making monster camera files.

Also I can remove it from the camera and give it to a 'boom' operator.

Or hook it up to a desk DJ or some other sound source. Nice!

On camera mode..
Can I feed TC into the camera to synch the camera with the externally recorded audio, I guess the ideal is to have track one (my main mic) into L on the Camera and TC into R on the camera

Off camera mode
I guess Ill just do the usual dual sound suff or buy some TC kit and leave the TC box attached to the camera

Maybe I should just buy some TC gubbins not that I know what that is!

Any popinters?

Very nice! I was initially looking at the PR-4 myself, although I eventually went a different way.

If you already don't own any timecode boxes then the ones made by Deity would seem to make the most sense in this situation. They would work the most seamlessly with the PR-4 and should allow you to control everything from the phone app.

Im on the wall about putting audio into the camera or TC.. becuase in a file handoff, in camera is good..

my first tests are not ideal..

TC clips the camera and doesnt work - I wonder if I can turn it down
Audio sounds tinny from the camera

I guess clients might just have to grow up!

I have found that TC can be issued from the recorder, at two levels, I’m not sure of the correct titles (jam port and mic I guess). I cannot find how to change that on the recorder but the change can be made in the telephone app which I have now done. The canon R6 now gets a manageable TC signal in one channel and some audio in the other. Resolve can read that TC, thank you.

Ive done one test in resolve for syncing which seemed OK but I’m not there yet.

My guess is that id leave the recorder running audio for chunks of time but only record bits of picture.

Say a marching band.. I hit record audio. I then frame up on the trumpet and roll camera for 10 seconds, cut, reframe to drummer, for 10s.. etc
