Hi there, i am new here, and i ordered my Defy G5 on august and finally get my one on 6/1
After 2 days of testing and thinking i am selling it because of some reason.
so i will list of my short review of this new tech stuff
Pro: -The finishing and looking was very cool compare with some DIY cheap gimbal out there,
- Come with a pelican Case which i think is well protected
- The Performance MAYBE awesome ( i will explain it later )
- Vary camera system can be use
- The wire is clean and didnt look like a prototype thing
- Cheap compare with MoVI freefly system
Cons : - It is not as light as MoVI freefly system because G5 is make of alloy and not full carbon fiber,
- Dont have a stand for set up, you have to DIY one for balancing and set up
- VERY HARD to balance well, i am a steady cam merlin user for years, i know how to balance well for my merlin,
But G5 use near 1-2hrs for balancing. many of you guys know that steady cam usual use same lens each time( for me it is a 5d3 and 16-35II)
It is good if i just need to balance one time and lock everything down. i dont mind to spend 4hrs, 6hrs for good setting if i need to balance for one time only.
But the most important cons is that. You need to return all the setting to FACTORY DEFAULT after each time you put it back to the case!!!
So when you want to use next time, sorry you need to balance it again.
- For Switching between Throttle controller and wireless radio controller, you need to connect to notebook for changing.
- LONG waiting time, 12 week waiting time after you ordered.
- I didnt see a similar result for mine when compare with their official video. But it may because of my poor balancing skill. But i already give few day of try.
For slow movement like walking, i think the performance is acceptable. But for running, fast movement, it show of shaking and the footage is not usable.
Conclusion:
As i am a wedding film maker, i need to set up as soon as possible. so i dont have the time to set it up for each time. Also, For the
price of 4000us , i dont expect it can only use for slow movement, i can do it with merlin also. i think the design is good and maybe the poor result is because of my balancing.
But i dont think it is easy as they say for balancing. If you are good at some DIY stuff, i think you will happy with it. But i dont think this product is for DIY person.
There are many cheaper on eaby if you are one of those DIY person. So i sold it to someone who may take care of it after 3 days of failed trying
Sorry of my bad english. Hope this thing help before paying for 4000us.
