Definition of 'Student Film'

Hey,
I just finished up a Feature, and I'm starting to fill out my forms for festival submissions. There is a box that you check if it is a 'student film'. I'm currently an Undergraduate student, but I did not make this film for a school project, nor am I studying film production as a major. Does this still count as a "student project"? Or do these technicalities matter?

I'm sure you can get away with it and nobody is going to cross check to see if it is in fact a student film. But if you're paranoid about it, in reality I don't think it counts.

I wouldn't call it a student film. You'll probably get asked about what film school etc., and you won't have the expected answer.

I would only call something a "student film" if its creation was due to the filmmaker being a student. That is, the filmmaker created it for a class, for a degree requirement, etc. Even if someone were a film student, a film made entirely independent of that status would not be a "student film" (for example, a film student makes something totally on his or her own, neither using school resources nor submitting the work as a class project, etc.).

...or a math major for example, while a student making a film would not be a student film either.
