dedolight DLH4's

Any of you guys use these? Been checking out the 3 and 4 head 24V/150W lightweight kits. Looks the goods - quite pricey (at least here in Australia!) but amazing accesories and clever ways of getting BIG output.

Yeah, great lights. Small, punchy, sharp edges, good lights for low watts. Well made too. Too expensive for me to own, but great to rent. I worked on a shoot that ended up using these in 98% of the shots. Handy.

I have two of these in my mole kit and I won't be caught with out them. Great light VERY controllable, strong output, small fixture, well crafted, expensive but worth it.

Isn't a 150 watt lamp very limited? Once you put a gell on that you've got a flashlite....

Unless of course these units put out more footcandles than a regular tungsten source at the same wattage. Do they?

Re: dedolight DLH4's

Raoul,

Dedo's put out about 3 times the light of a regular light, so a 150 will be almost equal 500watt standard unit.

Yes these are expensive, but the bulbs are nearly indestructable and are cheap, so the saving in not having to buy so many replacement lamps will make up the difference in the long run. I saw one pouned off a hard metal chair while on and the bulb didn't blow. An Arri 150watt head blew with one hit.

Re: dedolight DLH4's

In a lighting setup, would you recommend dedo lights over which lights? maybe fresnels or something? how do they compare, (besides pricewise) Thanks,

Dedo's are great for small intimate shoots and for accents. You can't use them exclusively for ligthing huge sets.

All lights are tools. You can use a shovel to dig a whole, but I wouldn't recommend it for eating soup. There's not universal tool.
