decent gh4 shotgun microphone?

I would opt for one of the Rode mics designed for DSLR's, at least that is a "decent" mic company.

Any mic going into a DSLR is going to be limited by the quality of the audio section of that still camera. And any camera mounted mic is going to be at a severe disadvantage to one that is properly placed in almost all cases.

So camera mounting an inexpensive mic and recording to a DSLR is a pretty compromised workflow. Straight up talking heads interviews are probably OK but a narrative shoot is going to be very problematic. With all the above in mind It's still probably a good idea to get one since the built in mic is near useless. But keep in mind that if your doing a narative shoot you will want a separate sound set up and this mic will really be so you have a decent guide track to sync your "good" recordings to.

Yes, Azden gear is not highly regarded amongst pro audio folks.
That said, a cheap properly placed mic will sound better than an expensive improperly placed one.. and atop a camera is about the worst place.. but generally can be OK for B-roll and such.. But whatever mic you use, DSLR's still don't sound very good.

Yeah I used to have rode vmp but sold it while back , wish i didnt. Im not filming any narratives or storys or anything like that at all, mostly jus skateboarding, some car rally ect. I guess between Rode, Azden, and the Audio Tech. or Beyerdynamic mic. Just dont want to spend a whole lot on one right at his moment. I also plan on getting the Riggy Micro222 for my Cage / Mic that i end up getting.
I have the varavon cage, so your saying mouting the mic to top handle would be bad idea? Im not tryin to shoot a whole movie to go on big screen or anything just small documentaries and personal stuff.

Thanks for advice.

I was referring to narrative work. In your case, whatever's convenient, out of frame and quiet. (i.e. handling, servo, motor noise , ect. In some instances, (performances) a stand mounted mic is preferred. (sound is unaffected by camera panning)
