Hi! I'm new to the community, but want to start posting more, so sorry that my first post is a question.

Just curious on a decent, but fairly cheap (under 150? 200?) Shotgun Mic/Boom Mic etc for use on an HVX200...I'll be shooting something for this girl who is trying to get into this acting school...and the crew is very limited, I'm so use to having a sound guy, but I live in Washington now and know nobody...any help is appreciated, and a website where I can purchase it also.

Thanks. Looks like a good community.

Welcome to the community Jay. Take a look at the top of the audio forum, the yellow stickys, along with using the search function, will answer a lot of your questions.

Off hand, I would recommend the Rode NTG-1 for a good "low cost" shotgun mic. It'll probably cost around 230 or so depending on the seller. Good Luck.

Do you live in DC or Washington State? I am in the Seattle/Tacoma area.

I second the vote for the ntg1, but if you can afford more, I would try to get an at4073a ($550) or a sennheiser 416 ($1050) or a Sanken CS3e ($1300). Don't get me wrong, but people often ask about one dollar range, when they really have more (you have an HVX ($5500 + p2), so I am assuming you put more aside than $200 for sound, right?

Look into the Rode videomic. They're quite cheap, and give good performance. Then again, I just opted to go for an NTG2 over it for the higher quality and value. I would reccomend getting at least an NTG1 if you can.
