Death Sentence

I'm the opposite. The plot doesn't excite me, but I'm a big fan of Kevin Bacon (he was robbed of an Oscar nomination for The Woodsman). So I'll see it.

Looks good. I'll definitely go see it.

Reminds me a lot of Jodie Foster's new movie, though. Seems like that plot has gotten quite a bit of mileage lately.

Side note: You'd think movie characters would know to stay out of convenience stores after dark. The hapless schmoe is always at the counter paying for his stuff when the gangsters walk in. Starting to get a little stale.

damn only $4 million on opening box office weekend. i guess the fact that james wan directed SAW has not helped in the least bit being as his last movie flopped and got bad reviews too.

has anybody actually seen this movie?

Saw it yesterday on a whim.

It was ok. The cinematography was pretty good and they definitely had some cool shots (the parking garage chase). Kevin Bacon was pretty solid, and it was nice to see they escaped some of the action movie cliches.

On the bad side, some of it was really cheesy and there was something like 2 or 3 crying montages with sappy music. Nothing against that, but it came of really cheesy to me.

Not horrible, but not great, I'd tell most people to wait for the dvd.

Is this a "remake" of Death Wish?

I was going to post about this the other day. Spike TV had some behind the scenes stuff showing the little rig they used to hand off the camera through railings and between levels as different guys kept up with Bacon on the seemless garage chase shot.

It was like a square Fig Rig.

Is this a "remake" of Death Wish?

Actually, it's a "sequel". I was reading somewhere that Death Wish was based on one in a series of four books, and this movie is actually loosely based on another one of those books.

So technically a sequel, but not really.

The story of the original Death Wish is kind of interesting. Brian Garfield wrote the novel. Apparently he had a convertable and left his fur coat in it. When he came back, the top had been cut open with a knife (presumably) and the coat stolen. He went to the police (in New York City) and they told him that there was almost no chance that he'd recover the coat. He holed up on his apartment and stewed over it. He started thinking about other scenarios and Death Wish was the result.

Was his european carry-all taken? (you know...his purse)

Maybe his girlfriend hated it, and chucked it out a window. Did he ever date Julia Louis-Dreyfus?

Were any of the sequels to Death Wish based on the novels, 'cuz they got pretty bad pretty fast. My father may have been the only person to see Death Wish 5, but he did see it like 4 times...so they made their money.

saw it the other day. wow. definetly worth seeing. some good intense spots, and the garage scene was seamless.

the sequels weren't based off of the other books. the author of the books is quoted somewhere saying he hated the follow up films cause they ruined the character.

i really wanna see death sentence. looks awesome

Put simply: decent acting (John Goodman was wonderful) and great cinematography...

...not-so-great everything else. The plot was just ridiculous. Offensive in its idiocy.

i just saw it. i really liked it. i think some of the stuff at the beginning could have been cut, but other than that, i really enjoyed the movie. solid performance from Bacon. this was waaay better than Dead Silence (the director's other film outside of Saw).

Speakin of, did anyone notice the Saw mural in the background of the scene with the main bad guy and Goodman?

i'm just wondering how long they're going to be able to sell that phrase "From the director of Saw" whenever he puts out a movie.

I just saw it. Went in excited left dissapointed. The soundtrack was horrible:
1. The music chosen for the scenes didnt feel right it was just wrong.

2. Dialog was cheesy, there was some very amature written stuff in there like the whole monologue in the hospital where Kevin bacon was with his comatose son. And the cop had bad lines it really wasnt written well.

3. Not enough emotion, once his son was shot everything just went to quick and the family really didnt seem to care to much, it just felt rushed.

4. The grainy dirty look of the film bothered me (but maybe that's just the style he wanted) I personaly didnt like it.

Plus side though.

Kevin Bacon just looked cool, and John Goodman was amazing. And the tatoos in the thugs seemed pretty cool.

I loved the parking garage scene though that was pretty intense.

just saw this with low expectations and i thought it was pretty good. it definitely kept my interest the entire time.

i didnt like the look of the film though, maybe it was just me, and besides the parking garage scene i didnt think the cinematography was all that good either. the music was cheesy as mentioned before, but Bacon played that part well, i mean he really made me feel like he was fighting for his life and just barely killing these guys.

the gang felt fake to me for some reason. most of them looked like skinheads or bikers and then they just threw in one black dude, i dont know, kinda corny.

if the lead actor was not kevin bacon or did any less than how he performed then i woulda probably bailed out early. coulda been better, but i would watch it again. i liked it.
