Just watched a very cool feature on the Dead Poets Society DVD. John Seale shows a group of students how he lit the interior scenes. They have a set and stand-ins and he actually sets up lights and shows you a bunch of his little tricks like how to hide lights. He does a winter scene and a spring scene. Changes gels, diffusion, direction. Informative and very cool and I highly recommend it.
