Dead Firewire

I was transfering video to my computer and I plugged in the firewire and windows came up and said it didn't recognize device, so I unplugged it, and plugged it back in, and windows did nothing at all. It worked the day before, and ever since I got it. I tried it on a nother computer to see if it was just mine, it wasn't. Why isn't it working anymore?

Firewere port seems like it's very delicate, I fried mine twice on mini camcorders!
Once I put the thick end upside down and fried it, and second time I didn't do anything wrong and it just stopped working. Thank god it wasn't DVX.
Try with a tester to see if you get the electric current going on your port.

We have found that it could be a couple of different things that are causing dead fire wire. The most expensive is the VTR PCB and the least expensive is the Side Jack PCB.

Either way, it is fixable and not to bad on your wallet. :)

Why fix it when it will just break again? Stick with using another camcorder for your deck, save money and head wear.

Manipura, what you described is EXACTLY what you shouldn't do with a DVX. Firewire goes in/out ONLY with power off on both camera and PC, otherwise it's a new VTR board for you.
