de-old filter

I have seen this talent in other "homemade" videos where they actually look younger than in the video I shot, because the videos had no real lighting.

because we lit the scene really bright, and the talent had no make-up, the talent looks quite old.

i have played around with levels filter, essentially just making it darker, which kind of works but then the scene is too dark.

just wondering if there are any tricks I am not aware of to "de-old" talent.

looks like a good plug-in

do you happen to know how to have the HVX settings to avoid (minimize) this prior to post production (like skin detail on or off or ??? other ???)

Dunno if the camera has the settings required to do this. I do know it is based on technology employed on the OPRAH show...adjusted in camera. But I don't know what to do.

There's simple diffusion filters you can buy to smooth out complexions, also lower sharpening in cam and in post.

Thing is that those also diffuse the hair and detail of other objects...getting that "STAR TREK female romantic lead" look. What this plugin does is target SPECIFICALLY skin tone. Hair and other fine details are left alone.

ring light looks interesting, I'd like to see it on someone with alot of wrinkles rather than a young woman...anyone have real world experience on if this "flat effect" does reduce wrinkles?

The ring light does smooth out wrinkles somewhat, but it doesn't cover or minimize blemishes. . . like makeup does. It's a flat and even light source and if hot enough to minimize wrinkles will destroy the character of good lighting. The ring light concept was developed for shadowless medical, primarily dental, close-up photography. It was then picked up by fashion photogs to give a hi-key, flat, dead-pan and stark look to models. A good plugin might well be your best choice.
Good luck,
Ken
