De-interlacing

If I shoot 1080i 29.97 and capture in V8 will it de-interlace compared to capturing with cineform avi de-interlaced, compared to de-interlacing with virtual dub, with clip eventually going to 29.97p in vegas to mpeg4. suggestions for best and optimal method

When you shoot in 1080i, you usually shoot in 60i, not 30p. Anyways, it's as you like. You can try Vegas' de-interlacer (select "progressive" in the field order of your project properties and test interpolate/blend-fields for the algorithm that suits you better), or just use Cineform to do the job. I would not use VirtualDub. Writing a good de-interlacer is a major job, and I don't put enough faith on people working on their free time to have it exactly right. Personally, I would put my money on Cineform, not on Vegas, regarding de-interlacing. Not all de-interlacers are born equal.

yea, I am aware of all that, I am shooting 1080i and editing 30p on my timeline, just wondering if anyone is using anything different, if vegas is capable of de-interlacing in comparison to cineform, virtual dub is good also, files are way too large and its too slow, I normally use cineform, I guess I'm trying to find out if any one of these methods, or all of them really de-interlace, there are articles around regarding getting clips de=interlaced properly then converted to progressive,
